So this is a really valid point and one that my Streamr colleague Weilei Yu raised just before I published. I also don’t think that simply giving things away to poor people is a necessarily good way of improving an economy (but that is a very long debate!). I also think that given the scaling solution on the horizon, those fees in absolute amounts should drop a lot. A penny or two for a transaction should be reasonable wherever you are but yes, it’ll never compete with free at the point of use. But then that’s the cost of keeping things decentralised.
